European Common Blue
Polyommatus icarus

Observation date: June 15, 2016
Submitted by: Allyson Gray
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Fluttered from flower to flower, landing on several of these little yellow ones. It was a fairly small butterfly, much smaller than (for example) a cabbage white. On one of the rare times when the wings were opened, I noticed a bluish hue in the area where the wings meet the body - it can't be seen very well in my picture, but it was clearly visible when the sun was hitting it at the right angle. The weather was very hot and sunny.
