Great Southern White
Ascia monuste

Observation date: July 28, 2015
Submitted by: Jonathan Clark
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Observed while birding at Peveto Woods Sanctuary. This species was very common in and around the few acres of the sanctuary, but practically EVERYWHERE in the parts of Cameron Parish (mostly south/coastal parts) that we birded/traveled through that day (very abundant!). Potentially, similar white-colored species among those seen while driving/otherwise poorly seen. Habitat: Live Oak wooded chenier just back from the beach, some dense thicket/undergrowth, small clearings/edge areas have lots of flowers in good diversity, adjacent pasture and marsh. Conditions: warm, mostly sunny, not much wind. Approx. time: mid-morning.
