Observation notes: I'm sorry the pictures are so bad! These are actually the good ones. My husband took these with his phone. My pictures are just a blurry butterfly....We saw several of these on our way to the waterfall at the Monrovia canyon. And we saw more once at the waterfall hanging out on the bank. One chased a California Sister butterfly away that flew too close to it. My husband said that he only saw the orange and white on the top of the wings, but I know I saw mainly yellow and white checks on the hind wings, and a few on the forewings, mixed in with mostly orange and white checks. It is hard to pay attention when looking after a toddler too. Well, I'll end this short story now. Maybe you can tell what it is, but probably not from these photographs. Thanks! (Note to self: cell phones take bad pictures of butterflies.)
