Colon Checkerspot
Euphydryas colon

Observation date: June 22, 2013
Submitted by: PDunwiddie
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Euphydryas were common below 3300' in openings in Douglas-fir/Ponderosa pine forest. Very red individuals with longer FW's like this were rare. This was photographed in wet mud immediately next to #906745.
Status: Resident
Verified by: davidwdroppers
Verified date: July 04, 2013
Coordinator notes: Kittitas and southern Chelan counties represent a blend zone, where anicia and colon hybridize. Most populations in this habitat and elevation represent colon, per Pelham. It is likely that this individual is expressing anicia traits within a colon population. Those checkerspots!
Checklist region(s): United States, Washington, Kittitas County
