Observation notes: This butterfly (?) was on a crepe myrtle in our back yard. It seemed to be drying it's wings maybe? It did not move for hours. My 2 year old shook the tree and it still did not move. It allowed me to get inches away from it and take pictures. I am not sure if it had just come out of it's cocoon, but I did not see signs of one. It was perfectly still with just a small pulsating movement. It was rather large with a wingspan of maybe 4 inches? I have more pictures if needed. I cannot find anything like it on the internet.
