Observation notes: These were on tansy ragwort but are not Cinnabar moths. They appeared to be sipping nectar but only on closed buds, not the open flowers. It was difficult to show the bright blue abdomen in the photographs, or the white tips to the wings. Although the second photo is blurry, it better shows the intense blue when in the right light. There were Cinnabar moth caterpillars on some but not all of the plants they visited. One photo I took (will send if requested) shows a moth on a caterpillar but the caterpillar did not react. They did not go to any other type of flower (and there were many in the field... mostly daisies and prunella).
