Milbert's Tortoiseshell
Aglais milberti

Observation date: March 12, 2012
Submitted by: JohnnMelissa
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Beautiful weather, in the high 50s or low 60's maybe, clear sky, wind calm . It stayed perched on the water quality sign for several minutes. Maybe enjoying the sun too? The sign and water quality station are IN the small spring pond.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Yes. Milbert's Tortoiseshell, one of the prettiest butterflies. They feed as larvae on nettles, which were probably at that pond or lake. Yours likely overwintered as an adult.
