Observation notes: I really struggle with fritillary ID. There were at least a dozen at this spot along the trial, using mountain coyote mint (Monardella odoratissima).

Coordinator notes: It is neither hydaspe nor zerene it is in the Northwest Fritillary group but it is irene! And irene is considered a species separate from hesperis by many. I found irene common on the Carson Pass Roadin 1986 -Ken Davenport
