Coordinator notes: This is an excellent pic I took today of the hybrid species, a female. The wing shape and forewing spots are pure Colias philodice while the coloring and more bold underside markings are pure Colias eurytheme. I've caught in years past even very large females that were pure C. eurytheme in wing shape and markings yet color was sulfur yellow without a hint of warmth nor orange. Hybrids of both species in males I've found to be rare. Here in Kansas any alfalfa field is an excellent observation of hybrids of various strengths toward one side of each species. This can vary from field to field. JAMES STEEN
