Observation notes: Sunny, high 70's, and windy. This butterfly was seen on a Sulphur Buckwheat plant (Eriogonum sp.). Off and on throughout the day, there were multiple Checkerspots visiting this plant.

Coordinator notes: The date of your sighting is a little early for the Anicia Checkerspot (aka Variable Checkerspot) and this one looks like a female Edith's...the bold red band of uniform size spots on the hindwings is unmistakeable in this species basically in every subspecies across the range.
