Our 2023 fundraiser has arrived, and we need your help!
We depend on donations to keep Butterflies and Moths of North America online and free. Your support is vital to the project. Please make a recurring or one-time donation to sustain this valuable source of information. Thank you!
Coordinator notes: The Anicia Checkerspot...this is the high altitude subspecies brucei (Bruce's Checkerspot). As you suggested Chalcedona...I can't remember if I explained...it was once thought Anicia and Chalcedona were the same species (aka "Variable Checkerspot") but they are separate. Anicia is primarily a Rocky Mountains butterfly and Chalcedona is mostly in the far western area. Editha is a mountain butterfly but is found primarily only in sagebrush habitat around 8000 feet in late May and June. Mike
