Edwards' Fritillary
Speyeria edwardsii

Observation date: June 06, 2022
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: My first thought is Aphrodite, but the silvered spots on the hind underwing seem much bigger and more filled out, and the surrounding color is so obviously contrasted with the fore underwing. I hesitate to say Edwards because that's just on the edge of its range, and is uncommon. Is the variation within normal for Aphrodite? Couldn't manage to get upper photos.

Coordinator notes: you are on the edge of Edwards' range, but it has been seen at Sugarite before. and this is its time of year - early for fritillaries. The ventral hind wing has large silver spots that are unique. another good get!
