Lupine Blue
Plebejus lupini

Observation date: October 20, 2021
Submitted by: chneal
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I first saw it sitting on the damp soil beside the small stream at a trail crossing in Upper Water Canyon, Los Alamos County, NM. It flew to a rock where it landed with wings partially open. I got a photo of its dorsal side but it flew before I could get down low enough to perhaps get its ventral side in a photo. I think it was probably a Lupine Blue as it was found above 7000 ft. and in Steve Cary's PEEC-hosted butterfly website he indicates the Lupine is generally found higher in elev. than the Acmon. It was a sunny calm morning with temp in the 50's.

Coordinator notes: chneal, my reasoning has not changed from what is written in the PEEC Butterflies of NM account. photos are a tough road to a firm ID in this case.
Checklist region(s): United States, New Mexico, Los Alamos County
