Mournful sphinx
Enyo lugubris

Observation date: October 06, 2021
Submitted by: vabch butterflies
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Weather was still quite warm and humid for October in Southeast Virginia (81 degrees/ dewpoint in the 60s). Moth was fluttering quickly through a large Lantana and pausing just long enough to feed. I watched it for at least 15 minutes, much of that time was spent trying to capture a photo because this is the first time seeing this species of sphinx in my yard.
