Observation notes: I first found the luna moth (I believe male) in my backyard on May 7, 2021 at approximately 1:45 PM. The day started off sunny but was overcast and approximately 60°F by the time I found it. It was on a fairly healthy beech tree near a stand of beech infected with beech bark disease. Wings were still damp. I checked it throughout the day as it dried and the last photo I took was at 7:06 PM. It remained in the same position the entire time. I missed the moment when it spread it’s wings but I did get to see it do little “push-ups” every so often.
