Observation notes: It's been really hard to get good butterfly pictures lately. They all seem extremely skittish--so much more so than they were all summer. I wonder if this is a common trait in the fall, when temps are more extreme, and pollen more rare. It took several attempts to finally capture this one. It was a mild, sunny, windless morning. Perhaps that helped.

Coordinator notes: I think shorter, cooler days and shortage of resources like moisture and nectar can make butterflies a little skittish. it shortens their lives and puts the pressure on to find a mate quickly.
