  Sighting 1274166

Observation date: July 13, 2020
Submitted by: JudyLY
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The butterfly was with many others on a section parallel to the levee road close to the intersection with 374 and north of Mesilla Dam that had lots of Climbing Milkweed plants in bloom.
Status: Resident
Verified by: stevecary
Verified date: September 12, 2020
Coordinator notes: Judy, this is the male (see the scent patch?). I also note the plant is in the milkweed family (milkweed vine), so the "many others" you saw might be because they are breeding/reproducing on this plant. Maybe you can investigate this going forward. Look for females placing eggs, and for larvae munching on the plant. Thanks for submitting!
