Did you know? The Hummingbird Clearwing (Hemaris thysbe) hovers in flight and uses its long tongue to sip nectar from flowers.

Epargyreus clarus

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I usually have about a dozen of these daily feeding on my Zinnias, and Cosmos. One thing that I have noticed, they almost seem somewhat territorial. They will chase anything that flies over to that patch of flowers. They even always chase hummingbirds, which I thought was unusual.
