Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: We expect Black and Spicebush Swallowtails in our garden, in the Piedmont red-clay Irmo side of Columbia. No swamps, though our yard borders Rawls Creek. Thankfully, Marty Kastner caught our ID error. The body stripes and yellow basal stripe below show it is Palamedes. Above, the yellow median band on hindwing is also present.
