Ceanothus silkmoth
Hyalophora euryalus

Observation date: March 24, 2020
Submitted by: lukewillsit
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: In harms way on a soon to be busy road underneath led street lamp on a misty early morning. Had spider webbing and missing an antennae (got bit off?). Seemed comfortable perched on my finger as I transported it to the wall underneath the backyard porch lamp. Moved a little bit and on 2nd day I took the creature inside to die next to my favorite lamp. Breathing lightly on the moth makes it open its wings and vibrate them in quick succession. Had this creature been a potato bug, I would have not extended my compassion.
