Observation notes: I took a look to see if I had any other boldly marked azures and noticed this one. This was taken the same day, about 50 mins earlier and .25 mile from photo 1241547. This season I'll pay more attention to them and maybe collect a few. Nectaring on manzanita.

Coordinator notes: The dark markings could be environmentally induced. Several blues in California are now listed in Pelham's Catalogue as species: Euphilotes allyni (El Segundo Blue) Icaricia chlorina, monticola and dedeckera (those three previously believed Lupine Blue subspecies). I elevated them to species status in the Southern California Update publication by Colorado State two years ago. About 4 others should attain species status as well, two will be from the Sierra Nevada publication that should be out soon, at least 3 were formerly considered Euphilotes enoptes subspecies-Ken Davenport. Speyeria irene, cottlei and dodgei are probably not the same species as hesperis.
