Observation notes: This butterfly and several others like it were landing on flowers at the edge of a picnic area, near a creek. (There were similar butterflies out among the desert plants away from the creek, but they didn't stand still long enough to get pictures.) Weather was hot (at least 90F), dry, and sunny.
