Observation notes: I saw this caterpillar crawling on top of a fence picket by my gate entrance. I had been riding my bike and I had a light attached to my helmet. That's how I was able to spot it in the dark. I took some pictures of it with my helmet light on. The caterpillar was 18mm long.
