Observation notes: I found a female Polyphemus Moth and 43 eggs on the right rear tire of my car at approximately 6:15 am on Thursday August 5th, 2019. I removed the moth to a nearby Birch tree where it laid another half-dozen eggs. I removed the 43 eggs from my car tire and put them in a small enclosure. Those eggs started to hatch into caterpillars on August 15th. Approximately 37 eggs hatched, and most started eating Oak leaves right away. 10 of the hatchlings appeared to die shortly after hatching.
