Banded sphinx
Eumorpha fasciatus

Observation date: June 17, 2019
Submitted by: Vhollinger
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: In the heat of the day, we were observing a katydid, crossing the sidewalk and all of a sudden along came the largest caterpillar we have ever seen, at least 4 inches long and 3/4 inch thickness. Nearby the grass of a soccer field was being cut and the crossing was headed to a brushy area near a stream. It was traveling fast and completely crossed the sidewalk in about 2 minutes or less.
