Our summer fundraiser has arrived, and we need your help!
We depend on donations to keep Butterflies and Moths of North America online and free. If everyone who uses this resource makes a donation, we could cover our ongoing costs, develop new features, upgrade the system, and maybe even remove those pesky ads. Please make a one-time or recurring donation to show your support for this valuable source of information. Thank you!

Coastal Green Hairstreak
Callophrys dumetorum
Observation date: June 04, 2019
Date notes: Photos collected over period of about 3/4 hour beginning at 1:50pm.
Submitted by: Scott Burgess
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on mountain slope landing mostly on what appears to be an Eriogonum species. It is visible in some photos. Mating pair observed in flight, courtship lasted less than 30 seconds before coupling occurred. Female then carried male to a safer position away from me in the field. Some specimens have significant numbers of white spots, others almost nothing at all.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: June 05, 2019
Coordinator notes: This is actually Callophrys viridis not a dumetorum but maybe viridis is a sheridanii. It is a Coastal Green Hairstreak, not a Bramble Hairstreak. BAMONA has not kept up with name changes.-Ken Davenport
