Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The wind was blowing about 12 mph, it was mostly sunny and 61 degrees. I saw this butterfly resting in a sunny spot on the concrete walk next to the garage. When I got too close, it flew into the grasses about 10 feet away. A few minutes later, it flew back to the concrete. Plants blooming at this time include Phlox, Delphiniums, and Mertensia. Wax Currants are abundant in this area but they were not blooming at this time.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Correct ID, a Hoary Comma (which almost certainly uses the Wax Currant in the area as its primary host plant). I saw one of these myself just a day earlier, near the Eggers Fishing Access Site in the Poudre Canyon!
