Behr's Metalmark
Apodemia virgulti

Observation date: April 27, 2019
Submitted by: ramonapioneergirl
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm guessing that it is a Mormon metalmark, however I read they do not come down this far into Southern California.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: In the future please provide specific locality information because many entities in the Mormon Metalmark complex occur in the region and in San Diego County. In this case your dot worked but it won't for eastern San Diego County in the mountains or the Colorado Desert. You are right that the Mormon Metalmark itself does NOT occur in San Diego County but others that resemble it do. Field Guides can be unreliable Mormon Metalmarks fly only in late summer and fall.-Ken Davenport
