Taxiles Skipper
Poanes taxiles

Observation date: June 21, 2016
Submitted by: jangorski
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Unknown butterfly on Showy Milkweed Asclepias speciosa
Status: Resident
Verified by: A_baldini
Verified date: November 14, 2018
Coordinator notes: This is a male Taxiles Skipper (Poanes taxiles); the females lack all the gold on the hindwing. This is the most common species of grass skipper along the Colorado front range. You might also encounter a look-alike, the Peck's Skipper, which is significantly less common. BAMONA's photo gallery should help distinguish the two species. Thanks for the submission!
