Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: 1:11 p.m. Weather: Warm, fairly calm, and mostly cloudy (it rained at one point). Habitat: Very dry upland prairie. Notes: This Variegated Fritillary was nectaring on a flowering rabbitbrush right at the start of the Well Gulch Trail. Most of the other fritillaries in the area were Speyeria sp., but none of them landed long enough to be photographed.
