Yellow-collared Scape Moth
Cisseps fulvicollis

Date notes: I was photographing chrysanthemums yesterday in our front yard at our mailbox when I noticed this butterfly or moth on the pink mums. I took a number of photos of it, and other, insects.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This moth was very busy dining on the pink chrysanthemums at our front yard mailbox in the early afternoon yesterday. The weather was partly sunny. The moth didn't seem to mind me taking close-up photos. I referenced my Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America and found the above name of this particular species of Lepidoptera. This is the second moth I have photographed in our yard that tends to come out during daylight hours. (The other moth photo I submitted was of an Eight-Spotted Forester Moth some years ago that was flying around our Comfrey and Catnip, also in our front yard.)
