Walnut sphinx
Amorpha juglandis

Observation date: September 17, 2018
Submitted by: KayBear89
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on the ground in the hallway near my apartment door. It’s 88 degrees and humid. I gently scooped it up (don’t want it to get stepped on of course) and it just froze. It made itself stiff, possibly to pretend to be a leaf. After a few minutes it started to flutter in my hand, then fell to the ground. I gently scooped it again and it fluttered to me. Due to its current state, I assumed it was either about to lay eggs or die.
