Lophocampa maculata

Observation date: August 27, 2018
Submitted by: Crashmoth
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: A dozen of them eating quickly on my small tree (can't remember the name of the tree). Windy day in a Rocky Mountain town with temp of 67 degrees.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Correct identification, and very cool photograph! To help identify your young tree, here are the host plants for this species: poplar, willow, alder, basswood, birch, maple and oak. Based on leaf shape, I'm thinking alder, but I'm not sure.
