Luna moth
Actias luna

Observation date: August 25, 2018
Date notes: I took notice of the moth around 2:19pm CST. I hadn’t noticed it earlier in the day.
Submitted by: Vtreadway
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Our porch light was left on the night before and may have attracted it. It is extremely hot today about 85-95 degrees Fahrenheit by mid day with a light breeze. This area is shaded by an overhang. The moth was beautiful and about 4 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches long from antenna to tail. It was very aware of any presence but didn’t take off and seemed to be trying to stay out of the heat. The wings looked weathered, tinged with brown at the edges like a withering flower.
