Observation notes: Partly cloudy, very humid, about 85 degrees. The butterfly was working intently on a zinnia. The area was a large, overgrown brushpile at the steep edge of a field above a thickly wooded creek. Nearby were an odd assortment: grass, ironweed, joe pye weed, black-eyed susans, milkweed, lespedeza, poison ivy, grapevines, zinnia, pumpkins, something like moonflower, bamboo, oak, elm, maple, beech, locust, sycamore, hickory.
