Observation notes: Sunny, humid, 75 degrees. The butterfly was moving from leaf to leaf in the sun, 3 feet above the ground, about 20 feet from a slow-moving creek. Nearby were sycamore, oak, maple, beech, white pine, wild cherry, sumac, box elder, dogwood, lespedeza, wingstem, autumn olive, rose mallow, joe pye weed, iron weed, milkweed, dogbane, senna, black-eyed susan, mixed grasses.
