Funereal Duskywing
Erynnis funeralis

Observation date: July 16, 2018
Submitted by: joeschelling
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Butterfly appeared to be nectaring on a large patch of lavender, resting with open wings for a few seconds before flitting to a new perch but stayed around the lavender for at least 10 minutes. Almost black in appearance with bright white hindwing fringe and few small white spots on upper forewing. Seems unlikely this far north, but thinking it might be Drusius Cloudywing; two lines of white dots seen in underwing shot (by R. Gracey) might just make it a very dark Funereal Duskywing ?
