Observation notes: It’s 86°F. This butterfly was on a maple tree in a little patch of sun in a shady suburban backyard. There are other deciduous trees nearby, including ash, dogwood, sycamore, and beechnut. There is also a wildflower garden nearby with black eyed susans, purple coneflowers, Shasta daisies, and beard tongue.
