Polyphemus moth
Antheraea polyphemus

Observation date: July 16, 2018
Submitted by: Brood XI Hunter
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Seemed like it was reaching the end of its life cycle. Initially found on the asphalt of a gas station parking lot... possibly attracted by lights overnight or struck by a vehicle. Gently moved the specimen to adjacent wooded area and left amongst leaf litter. Hopefully it had the opportunity to lay it’s eggs over the past few nights, as it did not seem to have much life left in it. Hopefully, if it was at the end of its short adult life cycle, moving it at least allowed it to pass with dignity.
