Rusty Tussock Moth
Orgyia antiqua

Observation date: July 13, 2018
Submitted by: CClouse
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This insect was found in my home on a potted basil plant. The basil plant is surrounded by a potted "Hot & Spicy oregano" plant and a potted Peppermint plant. I only noticed it because we have some very crazy weather and the window was open and blowing the plants so i went to move them, and that is when i spotted it. I am a lover of caterpillars and moths and i have never seen this type before! It was acting a little slow.. and maybe injured? It seemed it didn't have an idea of what was going on. I found a piece of its back end on another leaf of the basil plant.
