Field Crescent
Phyciodes pulchella

Observation date: June 03, 2018
Submitted by: A_baldini
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: 11:00 a.m. General Weather Conditions: Moderately warm and quite breezy, mostly sunny. Observation Notes: These butterflies were absolutely everywhere once getting some distance from the parking lot. While I believe there were a few other species of checkerspot and crescent mixed in, these accounted for the vast majority of small nymphalids in the area. There were some large colonies of daisies growing in the area (pictured), but I'm not sure if this species can utilize them as a host plant.
