Lorquin's Admiral
Limenitis lorquini

Observation date: May 25, 2018
Submitted by: Lisahug
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: lowland riparian corridor. mostly cloudy, low 60s. only other butterflies out were cabbage whites and a few Western Tiger Swallowtails. not sure if this is a genetic aberration or just heavy wear or both, - but all the red scales are absent form the forewing edges and the white spots in the center are translucent.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: I believe this is what is called form "eavsii." The band looks more like a Weidemeyer's Admiral but of course it isn't. I look forward to examining your Polygonia when it arrives.-Ken Davenport
