Glover's Silkmoth
Hyalophora gloveri

Observation date: May 15, 2018
Date notes: Date and time are exact.
Submitted by: cologator
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Observed and photographed on front deck of home in Las Animas County, Colorado, 15 miles SW of Kim. The moth may have been weakened by the extreme windy weather, for it remained for hours.
Status: Resident
Verified by: charleseharp
Verified date: June 29, 2018
Coordinator notes: This is actually not a Cecropia Moth, as the white "tooth" markings are surrounded by red, not gray like the Cecropia. Also, the body is white and black striped, not white and red like the Cecropia. Finally, the Cecropia moth is enormous (5+ inch wingspan) and somewhat rarely observed in Colorado. This would appear to be one of the Cecropia's much more abundant Colorado relatives, either the Columbia Silkmoth or its former subspecies, the Glover's Silkmoth. I personally cannot tell any physical difference between the two, so I'll let charleseharp (the Colorado moth expert) confirm this sighting. Thanks for the submission!
