Ceanothus silkmoth
Hyalophora euryalus

Observation date: May 15, 2018
Submitted by: prairiedaisy72
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It was on a piece of lumber in my carport we were moving. Sunny and about 75 degrees. I got it to climb onto my pinky. Its legs were very sticky but velvet soft. It was slowly flapping its wings for about a minute then it would do a whole body vibration for about 20 seconds then go back to flapping wings. It alternated between the two. After about 20 minutes, it did a whole body super fast vibration for a full minute then flew away.
