Mourning Cloak
Nymphalis antiopa

Observation date: April 22, 2018
Submitted by: A_baldini
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: 2:30 p.m. Temperature: 57.75 degrees. Wind Speed: 7 mph. Sky: Sunny. Notes: I saw four Mourning Cloaks on this day, two of which I managed to capture. There seemed to be a large population in the area, which consisted of an enormous grove of cottonwood trees next to the Poudre River. This population was here almost certainly due to the fact that cottonwood is one of the species’ host plants.
