Fingered Dagger Moth
Acronicta insita

Observation date: September 09, 2011
Submitted by: sgguthart
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This caterpillar was found on a Thinleaf Alder. The Alder was growing on the edge of a lake and near a thicket of Willows.
Status: Resident

Verified date: February 25, 2018
Coordinator notes: This is almost certainly a Fingered Dagger Moth caterpillar, whose primary host plant is alder but will also use willow. Based on the date of observation, this one will probably overwinter as a pupae like most moths do. Nice find; based on distribution data I found, this moth doesn't seem very common in Colorado.
Checklist region(s): Larimer County, United States, Colorado
