Coordinator notes: This is Bruce's Variable Checkerspot (Euphydryas anicia brucei) that occurs above timberline in Colorado. They begin to emerge at high altitude not long after the snow begins to recede and you can see from your photo, this one has been out for sometime past the middle of July. Mike
