Long-tailed Skipper
Urbanus proteus

Observation date: November 13, 2017
Submitted by: carriecross
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny day, 73 degrees. Butterfly hanging around gardenia bushes, always hanging upside down on underside of branches when landing. At first thought it was a moth because of coloring, but it had long tapered wings and held wings closer together when resting. Unusual greenish blue tinge to back between wings (could not catch that on photo with my cell phone camera, or from our angle). About 2 to 2-1/2 inches long from top of wing to bottom tip of wing.
