Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I've called this a Monarch butterfly, but the markings are not those of a classic Monarch. The white wing spots that are typically found only on the black areas of the wing are also found in orange areas. Otherwise, they appear to be about the same size as "true" Monarchs. These butterflies are very common in my yard and prefer the flowers of an ageratum plant next to my deck. Often there will be four to six on the plant at one time.
