Observation notes: This species was by far the most common butterfly around Mt Adams (all sides) from 5000' to over 8300'. One exceptional group of several hundred was basking in late afternoon sun on wet mud just below an alpine glacier at 8300', far above treeline. A truly spectacular irruption. Individuals closed wings when disturbed, with the entire group taking wing at once.
